MORTEN LØFBERG (b. 1984)

Morten Løfberg (b. 1984) works with an exploration of existential emptiness through recurring motifs of jellyfish and mountains. The drifting jellyfish appear suspended in space — gathered yet disconnected — while the mountains stand side by side as solitary formations. Together they reflect a contemporary condition shaped by individualisation and distance, where connection is promised but rarely fulfilled.

Through drawings made with ballpoint pen, ink and industrial alcohol on woven paper scraps, Løfbergs process is deliberately slow and repetitive. The pen lines accumulate gradually, following the rhythm of the hand, allowing time to become visible in the surface. The braiding of discarded printmaking paper emphasises material continuity, where existing fragments are reorganised into new structures.

From afar the works read as unified pieces, yet at close range they dissolve into dense networks of small elements. The process becomes both method and subject, proposing attention, duration and care as a counterpoint to speed and disposability.
